Hope Equine Rescue

Our Mission

Hope has been our mission from the start, beginning with Gigi’s first pony, Hope, whom we rescued and rehabbed from multiple tooth abscesses (see full story on home page). Though Hope is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in the work we do with our sponsorship program. Because of community support, Hope Equestrian Rescue can help the owners of elderly and/or injured horses with the care their equines need to thrive. While the dream of horse owners worldwide is to give their horses love and care all the way through their golden years, sometimes finances make that impossible. Sadly, this often ends with horses that are ripped from loving homes and put into sale kill pens and other tragic situations. Furthermore, well-meaning owners may end up neglecting their horses due to financial restraints while unable to find a safe place for their horses. Whether they fall on tough times or a natural disaster strikes their area, Hope Equestrian is here to keep loving owners and at-risk horses together. Our program is prepared to offer long-term and short-term support to struggling owners and their equines, keeping the pastures full and the kill pens empty.

How it works:

We partner with companies that offer feed, supplements and care supplies to help meet the need and reduce waste. By donating their surplus goods, more horses are cared for and our planet is better for it. Those supplies are then shipped by Hope Equestrian Rescue directly to owners with horses in need. Furthermore, should a horse require veterinary services, Hope Equestrian Rescue can offer partial or full support of the necessary care by sending funds directly to a selected veterinary clinic in the area.

Application: After an application is submitted, the Hope Equestrian Rescue board decides if the horse and owner will be a good fit for the program. If so, the board will set up a virtual meeting with the owner to discuss how the program works. Owners will then receive supplies and/or funds for veterinary care (sent directly to the clinic). If the board does not accept an application or there are no more slots available in the program, the owner will still be emailed a care package with enclosed information and resources to assist them.

Our Dream-Hope Equestrian Outreach

Our Resident Goldens, or retired equines, have one job: to do absolutely nothing. They get to live out their golden years with no more work; just good food and good fun! A few of them also get to act as ambassadors to the cause. However, not all rescue horses are old or injured. Many of our rescues are simply needing more training and a new purpose in life – and that’s what sparked our dream. Growing up with horses, we always appreciated the incredible experience of owning our own horse. While our family farm helped make that a possibility, not all children are as fortunate. That’s why Hope Equestrian Rescue wants to expand into Hope Equestrian Outreach. Our vision is to pair low-income youth with our younger rescue horses, providing them with the experience of owning a horse. Our younger rescues, or Silver Star horses, are currently in training. However, we expect most of them will be ready to find a child partner within the next 12-18 months. Through our sponsorship program, kids will be educated about caring for their equine partner. Additionally, they will receive training and riding instruction in their chosen discipline. Kids will learn not only about horses, but about responsibility, tenacity and patience. Owning a horse as a child is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we believe every child should have the chance to know it. 10% of donations towards Silver Star horses will go towards the other expenses of beginning Hope Equestrian Outreach, with every cent bringing it closer to reality. The mission of Hope Equestrian Outreach is to give rescue horses the chance to be cherished and kids the opportunity to love them . . . and to see their childhood dreams come true.
